On 6 August 1939 over 100,000 people came to see the White Star Liner Mauretania come up the River Thames, london, England, after completing her maiden vouage across the Atlantic.
The ship was 772 feet long and 89 feet 6 inches wide and only just managed to to fit into the Entrance Lock of the King George V Dock (800 feet long and 100 feet wide).
